What is EarnCheck?
EarnCheck is a shift and pay tracker for iPhone that records your hours, estimates your gross pay with overtime, and compares it with your pay statement line by line. You keep your own independent record of every shift, so on payday you are checking numbers against something you wrote down, not memory.
Your hours, your rules, your record: EarnCheck puts the math next to the paycheck.
How a shift pay tracker checks your paycheck
- Confirm the shift. After a shift, one tap says it went as planned, or you adjust the start, end or unpaid break. Night shifts that cross midnight stay one shift.
- Watch the estimate build. Your estimated gross pay grows through the pay period. Tap Show the Math to see the hours, rates, overtime and premiums behind each amount.
- Check payday. Type in the figures from your statement. EarnCheck compares regular with regular, overtime with overtime, premiums with premiums, and marks each line Match, Difference to Review or Incomplete Information.
Gross is compared with gross, so deductions never show up as missing pay.
Inside the app

Overtime rules you can see
Pick a starting rule: the U.S. federal 40-hour weekly rule, Ontario's 44-hour weekly rule, or your own agreement. In the app, each preset links to its official source and lists its exceptions. You can set your employer's real workweek even when it differs from your pay period, which is where a lot of overtime confusion starts.
When something does not match, EarnCheck lists possible explanations to check first, lets you track each difference, and drafts a neutral message for payroll that you can edit and send yourself. It never contacts your employer.
One design decision we made
We call a gap a Difference to Review, never an error. A rate change, a late timesheet or a different workweek can all explain a gap. A calm label keeps the conversation with payroll calm too.

Who should pick something else
- You need take-home pay. EarnCheck does not calculate taxes or deductions. A paycheck tax calculator is the better tool.
- You run payroll for others. This is not a payroll system. It is one worker's own record.
- You want legal advice. EarnCheck shows the math from the rules you enter. Your payroll team or local labour authority can confirm what applies to you.
- You are on Android. EarnCheck is iPhone only.
Privacy is simple: records stay on your device, there is no account and no analytics or advertising SDK, and Face ID App Lock is available. Data leaves your phone only when you export or share it. You can try a sample payday before entering anything.
Questions about tracking shift pay
Is EarnCheck free?
Yes, with limits. The free version covers one job and a complete first pay period with unlimited shifts, weekly overtime and a payday comparison, and your saved records always stay viewable. EarnCheck Pro adds unlimited pay periods, multiple jobs, advanced overtime and premium rules, and full exports, backup and restore, on a monthly or annual plan.
Does EarnCheck calculate my take-home pay?
No. EarnCheck estimates gross pay from the hours, rates and rules you enter. It does not calculate taxes or deductions, and it keeps deductions separate so they are never counted as missing pay.
Does it connect to my employer or my bank?
No. There is no account, no bank login and no employer login. EarnCheck never contacts your employer; if you want to ask payroll about a difference, it gives you an editable, neutral message that you send yourself.
How does it handle overtime?
You start from Ontario's 44-hour weekly rule, the U.S. federal 40-hour rule or your own agreement, and set your employer's real workweek. Each preset links to its official source. Pro adds daily overtime, double time and night, weekend or holiday premiums you define.
What about night shifts that cross midnight?
An overnight shift stays one shift, even when it crosses midnight. Scheduled shifts are never counted until you confirm them.
If EarnCheck shows a difference, was I underpaid?
Not necessarily. A difference is something to review, not proof of an error. EarnCheck lists possible explanations to check first. Your payroll team or local labour authority can confirm what applies to you.
